What does good look like?
Good career, good role, good company, good industry?
My guess is that we say – “it depends”.
In my new book Tame the Change Noise®, about making incremental career moves before you need to, there is a framework to self-assess what ‘good’ looks like for you.
The first step is to consider what you already do well. Your top two strengths which have driven your career and where you expend 20% of the effort yet obtain 80% of your results. If that is ‘what’ you do then your core value is ‘how’ you operate in your career. When you put the two together, what experiences come to mind where you have excelled? This is your personal story. It is yours alone.
The next step is to check on your career mindset. Are you telling yourself stories that no longer apply in your current career? Are the stories (mindset) helping or hindering you now?
When you know your story and your mindset, what do you notice in your environment right now? How aligned are you with the opportunities and challenges you see?
With your story, your mindset and your alignment, what is the focus of your next career move? Do you have a small gap in knowledge you can easily complete yourself, or is the gap between you and achieving your career potential much larger, so you need to reach out for outside support?
The book is about answering this question;
“Am I doing everything I can with what I already have in my career?”
While your initial answer maybe ‘yes’, with this quick self-assessment you can check and then judge the resources you need.
The book is available as a resource to complete independently, or the Tame the Change Noise® Positioning Power Hour (which includes the book) may suit you to find one step to focus on and get your career changes started now.
