“Networking is fun.” Said the perfectionist. Never.
An example of this was during a networking conversation with a patient marketing consultant. I was asked to tell them more about the niche I was focusing on – MBA's moving from being a specialist to a strategist.
Patient marketing consultant: ‘How big is your market?’
Me: ‘Dunno’
Patient marketing consultant: ‘Who have you spoken to so far?’
Me: ‘No one.’
Patient marketing consultant: "May I suggest that ….." (you can guess the suggestion was to research and speak to as many people in the group as I could).
The perfectionist inside was uncomfortable that such obvious steps should have been clear to someone trained in research, but the business person valued the insight and encouragement.
It occurred to me afterward that conversations with a mutual interest (business development in this case) and a clear ask of sharing knowledge, were fun.
Thank you to the patient souls that have taken time to listen to my many questions. I look forward to sharing knowledge, introductions and/or referrals in the future.
If you have read this far, I am curious to understand what MBA's have moved onto after their studies. My #bkecmbaresearch ask is to have a 30 min conversation with you (or someone you think would be interested) about the MBA experience before, during and since finishing your studies within 2-5 years.
